Todays ride was dedicated to our Team Leaders son Jesse and his Father. Jesse is Jason’s son who at an early age has had to battle this disease with a brain stem tumour and Jason’s dad is undergoing surgery today to help with his cancer battle.
The day started off pretty rough as we headed out from Revelstoke on our way to Golden, (151km) the weather was cold and rainy. Our team knew that today was all about climbing but I don’t think that it really set in until we approached the base of the mountain only to hear that we have 1689 metres to gain in altitude and we had 4 hours to complete our climb. As we made our way up the mountain we stopped for lunch at Rogers Pass which symbolized the height of our climb. Most of us ate with blankets around us to try and get warm and dry. The afternoon consisted of a down hill battle to see who could reach the fastest speed and after a 15km descent we had a winner of reaching a speed of 87km/hr.
Tomorrow we will be riding from Medicine Hat to Gull Lake (213km)
We are having trouble uploading pictures as we cannot get reception in the mountains. I will upload ASAP.
Day three was the official first day starting off in the town of White Rock who hosted a great party for the send off. With all 100 participants in the Pacific Ocean our goal was set into motion to bring awareness to this amazing cause that everyone has worked so hard over the last 10 months to bring together.
Pictures will be posted as soon as I find my camera, hopefully tonight.
Day two consisted of in class presentations regarding safety procedures, route information and something else but I couldn’t concentrate. Just like childhood when you were grounded and wanted to go out and play we had to stay indoors for the most part until finally Mom and Dad said it was alright to go for a small bike ride. Just as fast as they told us to get ready 40 riders took over the local roads and started out, as a person with ADD there are way too many shinny things and beautiful scenery to keep your mind off of the fact that you are 4-6 inches away from the persons wheel in front of you and with the ride not started as of yet I didn’t want to be responsible for the first crash.
Tomorrow we will have our first ride into Vancouver for the Inside Ride Event at the BC Sick Kids Hospital.
Thanks for your support!
It was just a few months ago when I thought this day would never come but as the summer flew by here we are all 100 very important volunteers and riders from across Canada sharing the same goal-Cancer free Kids. As we all arrived in Vancouver the excitement has started and with one more day before we can ride there are a lot of anxious riders who just want to ride.
Our first event is on Wednesday at the B.C. Sick Kids Hospital in Vancouver and will be our first ride as a full team.
Just to let everyone know that on July 10, 2010 on Strathmore BLVD,. in Toronto we will be hosting and Outside ride to help raise awareness and money for this incredible cause.
We are looking for teams of six to participate in this great event. Start time is 1000hrs with registration starting at 0900. There will be live music, games, bouncy castles for the little ones and a BBQ.
